ADCC 2017 Competitor's List (Olympics of Grappling)

ADCC World Championships is a grappling tournament developed by HH Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi) and it is organized 12th time this year. This time the tournament is held in Finland the first time.

The goal of the competition is to create common format for different grappling martial arts competitors (wrestling, judo, jiu-jitsu, MMA, etc) which allows each martial art’s strengths to be used on even ruleset and to see which ones will reign supreme.

Those who succeed in the tournament are awarded with fame and glory and also substantial prize money. ADCC World Championships has gathered great amount of the Worlds top grapplers througout the whole history of the competition.

World Championships are held every second year and they travel across the globe. To earn a spot at the World Championships a fighter has to win regional championships of his/her continent which act as trials tournaments. Along the winners of these trials tournaments competes some of the very best grapplers and fighters who have received the special invitations reserved for only the best of the best.

Men have 5 weight classes with 16 fighters in each class. Women have two weight classes with 8 spots in each. There is also open weight category and three superfights fought during the tournament.

First two superfights introduces some real legends of the sport. First superfight is fought between a pioneer of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA and two time ADCC champion Renzo Gracie vs. Sanae Kikuta

In the second fight we will see two MMA powerhouses facing each other under grappling ruleset. Former All-American wrestler and UFC title contender Chael Sonnen meets former UFC champion and a high level black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Frank Mir.

On the third superfight we will see a multiple-time ADCC champion and a superfight champion Andre Galvao who faces the winner of 2015 world championships open weight winner Claudio Calasans. Winner of this fight will face this years open weight winner in a superfight at 2019 World Championsips.

Finland has been represented in the tournament since the first editions of the competition.

On this his years edition we have winners of 2016 European Championships Tero Pyylampi (76,9kg) and Jesse Urholin (87,9kg)
